Many equipment buyers mix up double pitch roller chain (also known as double plus chain) with standard short pitch chain when updating conveyor parts. The main difference lies in the pitch length. A double pitch chain has twice the pitch size of a standard roller chain with the same roller diameter. It reduces the total number of links per meter, which cuts weight and material cost for low-speed conveying jobs.
Material selection directly affects service life. 40Mn carbon steel works well for dry indoor conveyor lines, with minimum ultimate tensile strength around 41.4 kN. SUS304 stainless steel is chosen for wet or slightly corrosive working environments, such as food packaging and washing machines. SUS316 is reserved for stronger chemical exposure.
One practical point we often remind maintenance buyers: double pitch chain is designed mainly for conveyor applications, not for high-speed power transmission. If the machine runs continuously above 1m/s, standard simplex roller chain will have better stability.
Check sprocket matching before ordering. Double pitch chain can run with standard sprockets, but many users prefer special double pitch sprockets to reduce wear on rollers. For replacement orders, send us the old chain measurement or sprocket tooth count to avoid mismatch.
Normal maintenance also matters. Keep proper lubrication and remove dust or debris regularly. Dirty chain links will increase friction and shorten working time significantly.
